George mulls over mediations and musings brought up by abandoned homesteads. George Wallace recites "Why Here, Then Gone?" featured during the 37th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering "Rodear Year."
ABOUT THE ARTIST
George Wallace
Fort Collins, CO
George Wallace has farmed and ranched north of Fort Collins, Colorado, raising kids, crops, livestock, and wildlife for over 53 years, restoring a once degraded landscape along the way. The Wallaces have received state and county awards for their practices. George is also Professor Emeritus from Colorado State’s Warner College of Natural Resources. George started writing poetry in his mid-seventies as a way of reflecting on an interesting life and a long-term relationship with a particular landscape which has always been home base. He published his first book of poetry, Enjoying the Work (Wolverine Press), in 2020. He hopes his poetry, among other things, makes a small contribution to closing what’s called the rural/urban divide.
